The Sketching Process




The Cover Page
     In my extensive search of inspiration for ideas to create the best magazine in the world with regards to finance, I believe i have found an adequate cover that can convey the message of what I think finance should be. In my early childhood i can clearly remember having a piggy bank on top of my dresser. This piggy bank was given to me by my father, a person who taught the skill of valuing everything in life even something as small and insignificant like a penny. So the idea of using a piggy bank as my cover page for my magazine came of no surprise.However this may change depending on the types of pictures that I take and use. The main idea that this magazine will drive home would be that saving money is essential to living a life of success with finance. Many people throw away any little money they earn off  small paycheck on items that hold insignificant value in the long run. Saving money opens up so many doors in the market of investment with stocks while at the same time allows one to know that they have money in the bank just in case of an emergency.

     When going through a plethora of magazine i saw many instances where a picture was used in the table of contents. I especially saw this in the Kiplinger magazine where usually there was picture of the elderly in lavish clothing. I would like to add a picture of a sack of money or of luxurious objects in my table of contents. The reason for this is because it is imperative that the reader's attention is ket on the magazine at all time. A picture accomplishes just that. In addition, i would like to organize the contents in colums describing each section of the magazine. On top of these colums there will  be a sub heading that is rightly colored to again obtain the attention of the reader when going through the magazine.

The Spread 

     In regards with the spread of my magazine it shall contain an abundant amount of information about finance. it should include personal anecdotes from successful billionaires and business men explaining their path too making it to the top. Also i would like to include proven methods of saving and spending money in an intelligent manner. Besides the text several visual images will be included to either further explain the topic at hand or be used as a form to grab the readers attention

           When creating my spread I waned to translate the many ideas that I used when designing my cover so I decided to maintain the same fonts as before, Because of this the main heading of my spread used the blush script font that can be compared to a type of cursive which conveys the idea of a fancy type of writing that is comparable to a some sort of extravagance. In addition to that i would made the font of the regular writing the font Franklin Gothic which is big and easy to use which was important because that is the main section that my readers would be drawn to. Table of Contents 2

     Breaking down my table of contents further down will reveal many different aspects of media studies. One of which would be picture I used, Originally the picture was an establishing shot of the luxurious Biltmore Hotel in Miami, Florida. Unfortunately, when it came to translating that same picture into the Indesign program it turned out that i had to crop out the picture in a drastic way in order for the picture to fit on the page.In addition to that I used several rulers to line up all the different texts together at first there was a noticeable amount of a lack of alignment making it seem disorganized and out of place. original draft        The selection of the picture came from my trip down downtown Miami where many luxury housing and hotels can be found.
